April 2008
Head Usher... Karen Ray

Jesus walked this lonesome valley. He had to walk it by
Himself; O, nobody else could walk it for Him, He had to walk it by Himself.
(American Spiritual)
All of us are familiar with these hauntingly beautiful words, which our
choir often sings at our Tenebrae Service. The second stanza continues:
“We must walk this lonesome valley, We have to walk it by ourselves.”
Apparently as slaves could not read, they missed the reassurance of Psalm
23.
“Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear
no evil; for Thou art with me; Thy rod and Thy staff they comfort me.”
Psalm 23:4
During this Easter season, we are reassured as we celebrate the
resurrection of Christ, that we are never alone. In the darkest times of our
lives, we can always turn to God.
Father,
We love You and thank You for the greatest sacrifice of Your Son so we never
have to “walk this lonesome valley.” Amen

Presbytery. This has not been done and is holding Presbytery up on their
process.
7. Joe Bowen, Chairman reported that this committee met on February 26,
2008, where they elected Joe Bowen as Chairman. There was a discussion for a
need for an annual financial review to better inform the Session members and
to conform with the Book of Order. The committee discussed contacting a CPA
to do this review. It was also discussed to look into what funds the church
holds and whether the restrictions on those funds are being followed. The
CPA will be asked to put a footnote at the bottom of their review on each
fund explaining the restrictions. There was also a discussion to improve the
church website, with broader information from church members and groups to
involve the entire church. The committee could like to amend the budget to
include money to support the web design and updates. Vicky Rinehart

make the necessary changes to the website for $250.00 with a monthly fee of
$50.00 for updates. Joe Bowen mentioned that the committee reviewed CDs for

liturgists beginning in April. David Pruitt agreed to be liturgist on April
6, 2008 and Frank Barnes on April 13, 2008. The worship committee was asked
to inquire if any non-Session members would also like to serve as
liturgists. April 6, 2008 is communion Sunday and Eddie Nash will be
conducting service on that Sunday. The Pastoral Care Committee agreed to
take care of home communions.
