From Samaritan’s Purse
Dear Friends:
Thank you for your recent gift to the ministry of Samaritan’s Purse. From
mountain passes in Peru to coastal villages in the Philippines, Operation
Christmas Child has delivered millions of shoe box gifts to hurting boys and
girls across the globe. Please be in prayer for our ministry partners in
these countries as they help us distribute the gifts and share the Good News
of Jesus Christ. We rejoice over the message the angel delivered to Joseph
announcing the Saviour’s coming, “You are to give Him the name Jesus,
because He will save His people from their sins.” (Matthew 1:21b,NIV).
We appreciate your prayers and support.
Sincerely,
Franklin Graham

As you can see, many were helped only because of those who gave so
generously of funds, food and time.
Christ’s blessings on all who helped in any way!

Matthew 20:28
“The Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve.”
Are we preacherless? Ministerless? Pastorless? I know there must be a
word for it. At any rate, Tazewell Presbyterian Church is in that state now.
The wheels of selection do not turn quickly. Many of us are in a state of
waiting and asking, “Why does it take so long to find a pastor? We need a
leader.”
Others of us have seen this need and acted. The staff spend every day
taking care of church business they did not have to be concerned about
before. Curtis Dunnivan works tirelessly with a committee that tries to take
care of special needs of the congregation. Karen Ray and her Pastoral
Nominating Committee move as quickly as the church method will let them. Pat
McPherson uses music to provide continuity in services as speakers change
weekly.
Anne Sergent and the Worship Committee keep our pulpit full of inspiring
speakers. Bernard Beavers and Richard Witten perform their many duties
faithfully. Ladies of the church reach out with their monthly luncheons.
Presbyterian Women meet for Bible study and planning church events. Church
committees continue their work to keep the church running. The Session
conducts business each month.
What are you doing to keep our church strong? Are you assisting any of
these people? Are you attending church regularly? Are you pledging your time
and talents? Are you praying for this church and the person that God will
send us? It is a new year, a time for resolutions. Make one of your
resolutions to better support your church in this time of transition.
Our Father, Help us to understand that a church is more than its
pastor. It is the congregation in its worship of You that makes a church.
Please give us the strength to step forth in this time of need. Amen.

BIBLE PROJECT FOR OUR MILITARY
From now until Easter Sunday, March 23rd, we will be collecting funds to
provide Bibles for persons in the military. This will be done through the
International Bible Society and the cost includes shipping. For only $3.50,
a new NIV Bible will be sent to a military chaplain who will see that
everyone who wants a Bible will be able to have one.
Please consider donating to this project which is our Sunday School
Mission project for the spring - but we wish the entire congregation to
participate. Make your checks payable to the church but note that it is for
the “Military Bible Project.”

Letter to church received January 4th from an “Angel Tree” family...
Thank you so very much for all you did for my grandchildren at Christmas.
On behalf of my daughter, Fayetta, her children, Ramona, Clyde, and Kelli -
and myself - our heart-filled thanks and appreciation goes out to all of you
who participated in the Angel Tree Program for Children of Incarcerated
Parents.
This is a great thing you do for these children. May God bless you and
please remember her, me, and my family in your prayers.
Thank you and God bless all of you.
(An Angel Tree Family)
P. S. Special thanks to Dora Barnes
“A sincere note that expresses deepest gratitude for everything
you’ve done. Thanks again!”

SESSION DIGEST...
MEETING January 15, 2008
Anne A. Sergent, Clerk
1. The meeting was opened with a devotion and prayer given by Joe Bowen.
2. The minutes of the January 6th Called Meeting and December 18, 2008
Stated Meeting were approved and Betty McClanahan was thanked for serving as
Clerk.
3. The Treasurer’s reports from Black’s Chapel and the Town Church were
received as information.
4. A card was presented from Barbara Morrison thanking the church for
Thanksgiving dinner.
5. The Session was asked remove Margaret Jennes from the rolls.
6. Prayer Concerns: Scott Campbell, Kelly Necessary, T. C. Bowen, Mary
Witten, Richard Witten, Bill Osborne, Susan A. Hawks, Charles Asbury, Anne
Bishop, Susie Bell, Dillard Keene, Mildred Pennington, Teresa Asbury, and
Steve Cooper.
7. The Christian Education Committee is working on guidelines for the
preschool scholarships for next year. Guidelines for Sunday school teachers
will also be thought out and members of the Education committee will discuss
their ideas at the February meeting. There has been a projected date for the
spring for all Sunday school classes in the church to collect money for
Bibles for our troops stationed in the Middle East. It is a special program
which we are very excited about. There was also discussion about
confirmation classes. There are four youth who would be participating in the
classes this year and it was a concern to wait for an inteim to be in place
to conduct these classes. Valentine boxes will be packed by the ICY group by
February 10th and shipped to our college students. The circles contribute
items for the boxes. The annual report was looked at and accepted as
written.

phone vote to grant the request for money for the ICY trip to Resurrection.
The vote passed by majority vote to give $550.00 to the ICY for
Resurrection.

reviewed the list of members in need and/or visits, and that cards are being
sent out and visits are being made every 2 weeks.
10. The Worship Committee reported that Anne Sergent and Kathy Wright met
to work on an interim job description. The job description was passed around
for the Session members to look over and asked for any changes or
suggestions. A list of all guest ministers for January and February were
passed for informational purposes and volunteers were asked to sign up for
liturgist and children’s sermon.
11. The following Elders asked to be excused: Barbara Gillespie and Frank
Barnes.
12. The meeting was closed with prayer given by Joe Bowen.
