THE COLD WITHIN
Six humans trapped by happenstance in dark and bitter
cold,
Each one possessed a stick of wood or so the story’s told.
Their dying fire in need of logs - one woman held hers
back;
For on the faces around the fire, she noticed one was black.
The next one looking across the way saw one not of his
church;
And couldn’t bring himself to give the fire his stick of birch.
The third one sat in tattered clothes and gave his coat
a hitch - “
Why should my log be used to aid the idle rich?”
The rich man just sat back and thought of the wealth he
had in store,
And how to keep what he had earned from the lazy, shiftless poor.
The black man’s face bespoke revenge as the fire passed
from his sight;
For all he saw in his stick of wood was a chance to spite the white.
The last man in his forlorn group did not expect for
gain,
Giving only to those who gave was how he played the game.
Six logs held tight in death’s still hands was proof of
human sin,
They didn’t die from the cold without! They died from the cold within.

Do you have a problem that is difficult to understand?
Think about this. God sees the problem and the outcome, especially when
we don’t!
Maybe this will help. “Being confident of this, that he who began a
good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Jesus
Christ.” Philippians 1:6
Trust in God to work in the hearts of your family, your friends, your
neighbors, and your co-workers because He will solve the dilemmas and He
will answer the concerns that weigh heavily in their lives. Also remember to
thank Him for the opportunity to make a difference in their lives even if we
don’t see the changes that will take place when we allow the truths of God’s
Word to work in our life and others. God works in His own time. Our trust
and our faith in Him remind us that God will respond and His love will shine
through what seems to surround us daily.
Just one more thought for you. “We know that in all things God works
for the good of those who love Him.” Romans 8:28

From our Clerk of the Session
My eyes have been opened these last few months to things I never really
paid much attention to before. Not saying that I did not pay attention to
church activities and events, but there are behind-the-scenes activities
that I had not really appreciated. Being one of those people now, I can see
how the wheels of the church work. I am doing my best to keep the church
supplied with guest speakers. The task has not been an easy one, but in fact
has been a challenge of faith.
The members of this church have survived the task of finding a new
minister several times, but does that make any one time easier than the one
before? I would think not. Everyone in the church has a job to do. Whether
each of you think that job is important or not, it still needs to be done.
Without strong faith, strong leadership, and faithful members - where do we
stand?
As I say, and I know you have all said, “The Lord works in mysterious
ways.” We are all here at this exact time in these positions in the church
for a purpose - whether we know it or not. Everyone from Elders to
congregational members play an important part in this process. I believe at
this time we are all needed to help the church find where we need to go. In
what direction do we turn? We all need to work together to achieve our next
step in this journey of faith.
“We know that all things work together for good for those who love
God, to those who are called according to His purpose.” (Romans 8:28)
